Pathetic Robot

1.5m x20cm x 25cm. Speaker driver; thermal sensors; distance sensors; ardhuinos; wheels; motors; beagle boards; car battery; custom programming. Created in collaboration with engineer, Adrian Godwin.

A roving robot randomly approaches visitors and makes short unfinished statements. Using a sophisticated array of sensors and custom written software, the robot gives the appearance of a hesitant person vainly attempting to make contact with others in a deliberately awkward way. Its vulnerability is both compelling and haunting, eliciting empathy despite its non-human appearance.
