The Before and The After

Evoking the 'haunting present absence of others', The Before and the After is the result of a meditative process of looking and listening, focusing on the human-centred, exceptionalist thinking that has led to the current ecological crisis. Close up imagery of wild flowers and trees invites the viewer to pay attention to natural phenomena, whilst a sense of haunting, or horror intensifies. The soundtrack is made up of field recordings of birds, insects and human sounds, processed or slowed down to create a stark contrast the luxuriant imagery of insects, flowers and lichens.
