Stranger Within

1993

four large photographs of orthopaedic surgery exhibited on a white wall

Stranger Within is a series of close up photographs of orthopaedic surgery, literally depicting the conjunction of body and machine. These close up, large scale enlargements are depersonalized whilst at the same time having a strong presence. Proximity is a necessary aspect of the work, so it is important that I took the photographs myself. The aluminium scaffolds holding the images 25cm from the wall work give an industrial feel. Wing nuts are used to enhance the relationship between the physical structure of the work and surgical implants depicted.

Four C-Type Photographs, mounted on aluminium structures, wing nuts, 112cm x 85cm x 18cm.
