Still Live

Based on a still life tradition that invites thoughts of change and entropy, these four photos function as modern Vanitas. Originally made as part of a project looking at the psychological and emotional effects of heart transplant, ‘Still Live’ explores themes of living and dying, proximity and distance, loss and
rejuvenation, and the distinction between self and non-self.

Drawing on imagery from Dutch Vanitas paintings, these photos contemplate the transience of life and the certainty of death. They reflect on what it means to be alive, offering a universal reminder that
everything is temporary and question whether being alive is dependent upon being a contained and
bounded individual, and the inter-connectedness of human lives.
