Object Stories

2019

it is in two parts, on the left is a colour photo of a woman, waist to knees, holding a family portrait on her lap. On the right is a black and white image of another woman holding the same photo

The Object Stories video comes out of a participatory workshop with people who have received heart
transplants at Papworth Hospital. Participants were invited to bring along an object that has personal meaning for them. The stories behind the objects were then narrated to camera, firstly by another member of the group (LHS b/w), who tried to imagine the significance of the object, and then by the owner themselves (RHS, colour). This process echoes something of the relationship between transplant donor and recipient.

Split screen video with customized dual mono headphones so each pair of stories can be
heard individually or together, full running time: 10min 30s.
