Leaves, embroidery thread, aluminium, sizes variable, spines approx. 80cm long. 8 works in total.
This work is an initial attempt to connect with elements of the natural world through the tactile process of stitching. In autumn 2025 I collected and dried leaves and began to embroider them. The first 3 works in this series are reminiscent of spines. Two other works are reminiscent of lungs. The drawn out and delicate process of stitching the leaves together became an offering of hope for repair – of damaged bodies, and of the fast-disappearing forests of the world.
Other works in the series feature leaves in the shape of a shield against an aluminium scaffold, suggesting mechanisms of defence and protection.
