Cadenza V2 (2017) is a single channel video animation in which a still photograph of an explanted heart is reanimated, accompanied by an excerpt from Nina Simone’s Feeling Good. The dysfunctional explanted heart was replaced during a transplant operation. The awkward rhythm and unnatural appearance of the reanimated heart speaks of both the fragility and the endurance of the human body as it undergoes major transformation. Cadenza was made in response to research that took place during Hybrid Bodies, an interdisciplinary project based in Toronto, Canada from 2006-2019.

Video animation on iPad (41sec loop), plinth, cast lead.

Cadenza v1 was a silent 3 channel video animation (3min loop) in which the same still photograph was reanimated to three different beats.
